Iceland Again

This year has been a huge year for travel for me, I’ve had Photo tours to Bhutan, Cambodia and Iceland with a few weeks scouting trip to Norway for tours next year, and in a few weeks I’m of to Bhutan again for the second time this year… I have so many new images that I don’t know where to start!
So, for want of a better plan I will begin with an image from my most recent trip to Iceland, where I ran two photographic tours back to back with Iurie Belegurschi. One of the locations I was really keen to go to on this trip was the Southern Highlands of Iceland with its amazing volcanic landscape and the painted hills.
It’s such an otherworldly place with such surreal landscape that unless you have been there it simply looks like something out of a fantasy movie, like Lord of the Rings, and so can’t possibly be real… It’s real. Here we are standing on the rim of an ancient volcano crater with a very deep and I imagine very cold green lake. Anyone for a swim?
This image is shot from ¾ of the way around the volcano crater and up a steep incline. The wind was blowing like crazy and rain would periodically blast through horizontally, so typical Icelandic weather really. This image is actually a 5 image stitch shot on the Hasselblad H4D-60 (I didn’t have my super wide angle lens so I couldn’t get it all in one shot), so the file is absolutely enormous!
